The new Jerusalem, by Carol Oakes, Hallowell, ME
My quilt is an icon for me, to help me visualize and imagine the unimaginable kingdom of God where everything has been made new. The 40 inch required size reminds of the square city of the new Jerusalem and also of Christ's 40 days in the wilderness preparing for his mission. The prescribed colors call to mind our world and the difference between it and God's kingdom. Black and white are the ultimate in contrast, and red is commonly used as a symbol of blood and love.
